Like mentor, like mentee. Call him FKA Kanye’s one-time muse or protegé but another thing Ian Connor and Ye have in common is their polarity, penchant for courting controversy. Back in 2017, the young fashion stylist released a series of bootleg Vans Old Skool, replacing the signature jazz stripe with the titular thunderbolt. It had completely subverted Vans’ trademark to divisive results. Divisive, with some success nonetheless, to Vans chagrin.

About 6 years later, Vans is stealing their “thunder” back. Officially integrating the motif into the make of their classic, with the newly-retrofitted Vans Old Skool Bolt “2 Tone” quartet. The name pointing to the two-tone design of the four colorways they’ve released today, at the time of writing.

It sees the succeeding colors of red, green, black, and navy hover over a white canvas base layer. The signature jazz stripe presiding over the lightning bolt that emerges from the midsole, marked by the lining that traditionally traverses the circumference of the shoe.

The shoes are available now for US$75 in retailers like Oneness as well and select regions of Vans’ brick-and-click. Best to move like lightning to get a pair.
