With the imminent Air Max Day 2023, Nike’s adding more iterations into the lineup. Coming off the bench into the court is the all-new Air Max 90 Futura. It will play alongside the Nike Dunk Low in the upcoming “Needlework” collection. More silhouettes may join the team, if granted by the powers that be.

Featuring textured finishes and a multi-material construction, the iconic Air Max dances between traditional and contemporary. Traditional in its design, contemporary in its fusion of materials.

A uniform sail colorway befalls the pair in varied tones. Suede wraps around the circumference from the mudguard through to the heel, complementing the canvas base layer. Leather joins the fray by way of the overlays, segmented and subtle in its placements: one at the fore, another at the rear. The latter debossed with Nike branding. It breaks tradition with a cursive font, one similarly imprinted on the footbed.

Despite the singular palette, subtlety plays a big part in the distinction between the components. Case in point is the serrated suede trimming on the vamp. Moreover, its most notable features are the minor yet conspicuous deviations from the blueprint. There’s the dual pull tabs integrated onto the tongue and heel; as well as the textured, embossed touch on the profile Swooshes; and the rope laces.

Anchoring all the above-mentioned is the white signature sole unit with the visible Air bubble window on the heel. The outsole maintaining the familiarity of its predecessors.

A release date hasn’t been disclosed aside from a loose Spring/Summer 2023. Nevertheless, with the climate warming up, the wait shouldn’t be long. Expect to find them then on Nike’s brick-and-click with a RRP of US$150.

Till then, here’s a good accompanying piece when the climate turns: the Nike Air More Uptempo Slide “Aqua”.
