AURALEE and New Balance Team Up for Brand New Apparel Line
Inspired by New Balance pieces from the 1980s and 90s.
Following their recently-confirmed New Balance RC30, AURALEE and New Balance are joining hands once more on a brand new project.
This time, the longtime partners are looking to expand their partnership further in terms of both scale and tenureship—with an all new apparel line. The “NB Archive Remastered by AURALEE x TDS”, a collection borne in tandem with New Balance’s Japan-based unit Tokyo Design Studio, is set to drop tomorrow.
The NB Archive Remastered by AURALEE x TDS consists of a range of apparel including colorblocked sweaters, nylon chambray tracksuits, long-sleeve and short-sleeve tees, and caps. The idea of reinterpreting archival New Balance pieces came to Ryota Iwai, AURALEE’s founder-designer, after he met two New Balance collectors who own rare, forgotten NB pieces.
Iwai subsequently teamed up with TDS and the partners dived into the New Balance archive for more design inspo. Referencing styles from the 1980s and 1990s, AURALEE infused their signature clean, sleek aesthetic into the pieces through masterful pattern-cutting and color play. The results are a line of sport-inspired apparel in various shades of tans and browns that scream AURALEE, complete with vintage graphics for that retro touch.
The NB Archive Remastered by AURALEE x TDS will arrive at New Balance and AURALEE stores tomorrow, with prices for pieces going from JPY6,600 to JPY38,500 (US$48 to US$282).
