Susan Fang Debuts Sustainable 3D-Printed Sandals
Innovative footwear tech meets eco-consciousness.
A week ago, Susan Fang staged their FW2023 show at London Fashion Week where the womenswear brand dropped a range of innovative 3D-printed footwear.
Launched in 2017, Susan Fang quickly became known for their delicate crystal-beaded dresses and bags. This unique ethereal quality also extends to their line of accessories and footwear. Last season, Susan Fang surprised us with a Crocs collab where the brand’s signature crystal flowers were seen adorning Crocs’ Classic Crush Clog.
For FW2023, the up-and-coming fashion label with a focus on sustainable fashion is officially dipping its toes into 3D-printed footwear.
“Sandals and flip flops were always my most worn shoe item but I wanted something more decorated that can fit well with our now much blended indoor-outdoor lifestyle,” said the brand’s designer and founder Susan Fang, “Thus, I thought these specially decorated lace floral cutout sole covers would be fun, dreamy and comfy for our everyday lives.”
Appearing in four colors, including two soothing shades of green, a purple and a white, the Susan Fang 3D-printed sandals are made using biodegradable TPU and completed by assembling leftover past-season tulle with ribbons and yarns.
The modular parts of these 3D-printed sandals are assembled without any glue—this means at the end of their lifespan, the sandals can be taken apart easily to be sent for recycling, an idea very similar to Nike ISPA’s circular design philosophy.
Alongside the sandals, Susan Fang also created a range of flip flops using the same biodegradable TPU material. Similarly, the flip flops, made in one continuous silhouette, also allow for recycling and repurposing.
While pricing and release details are not yet available, the Susan Fang 3D-printed sandals and flip flops are now open for pre-order via email sales@susanfangofficial.com.
