Vans’ most recognisable silhouettes have gone through many transformations in its lifespan. Even the least cognizant aesthete will have a pair in their rotation. It’s transient across different subcultures, from skateboarding to music, and the list goes on.

With their new “Unchain” collection, the quintessential Californian brand borrows from the creeper-style shoes from the UK.  “Street style” bears two meanings in two different lexicons, but for this new collection, they speak the same language. It’s as much European as it is American.

Three silhouettes are offered in the collection: the Vans Authentic, Old Skool, and Loafers. The first two arrive in a colorway each with the last having three.

The Vans Authentic “2BELT” is easily one of the most versatile footwear designs. This time, its elevated by the creepers’ rockabilly and punk pedigree asserted through the two-buckle system presiding over the laces. It comes alone in an off-white upper with a white crepe midsole.

Next is the Vans Old Skool “2BELT”. Similar to the above-mentioned, it comes integrated with buckles. Its silver make giving an edgier dynamic to the uniform black upper. Likewise, it’s also built with a crepe sole unit, staying faithful to the brothel creepers it was inspired by.

Last but not least, the Loafers, the only one to be offered in different color options. The first comes in all-black engulfing the smooth leather upper down to the midsoles, with the outsole underfoot featuring the staple vulcanized rubber. The succeeding two alternates between a White upper and black midsole, vice versa. Both suede, and all three equipped with a modular quilt.

They’re available now at ABC-MART GRAND STAGE with the Authentic priced at JPY9,900 (~US$70), the Old Skool and Loafers priceed at JPY11,000 (US$80).
