JJJJound Turns Gorpcore in a Collaboration With ROA
Hike to new heights in these, literally.
Justin Saunders’ Jjjjound is taking a break from hand-crafting New Balance sneakers in tonal hues and traveling to Italy to collaborate with the gorpcore’s boot manufacturer ROA on yet another understated endeavor that places a premium on good design over overt branding.
The collaboration focuses on the Andreas silhouette, which has been an essential part of ROA’s toolkit since their founding in 2015. The classic boot appears to be made of high-quality black leather uppers that are highlighted with a white “JJJJound” hit on the lateral quarter panel and a hi-vis reflective overlay on the heels. White hits are added to flecked laces, which are fastened by glossy black metal D-rings. White ROA’s distinctive emblem is featured on the outside of the forefoot, and a bright yellow Vibram hit is placed at the midsole’s heel to draw attention to the shoe’s trail-ready outsole.
The Andreas has always been a part of ROA’s personal capsule collections, but in more recent styles, controversy arose over the upgraded Vibram sole, which, to the delight of many, has since been undone to honor the original Andreas hiking boot design.
The JJJJound x ROA Andreas Hiking boot will release worldwide on 24 February on JJJJound.
