[Update 17 Apr 2023] Two product images have surfaced of the incoming ALD x NB 550. Arriving in “Brown” and “Taupe”, the pairs feature a suede and canvas construction with a unique two-toned midsole that features a washed-off motif doubling down on their signature vintage aesthetic.
If there’s two entities within the sneaker world that compliment each other like peanut butter and jelly, Aimé Leon Dore and New Balance certainly comes to mind as a top pick. The duo have enjoyed many collaborations in recent years, especially with Aimé Leon Dore’s founder Teddy Santis assuming the role of New Balance MADE in USA’s Creative Director back in 2021.
A year before his appointment, Santis and his label revived the long-forgotten New Balance 550 model, creating what is one of the best selling product lines for the Boston-based shoemakers as of today. In the years following, the two brands have frequently collaborated on the 550, creating 11 iterations of the basketball silhouette as of today. Now, it seems like two more will be added to the lineup, with new leaked imagery surfacing of two upcoming brown pairs.
Following up from their most recent 550 collaboration, hairy suede reappears on these upcoming Aimé Leon Dore x New Balance 550 colorways. What seems to be canvas textile takes on the base of the uppers, while two shades of brown take on the rest of the uppers’ suede overlays.
As per usual, co-branding lands on both pairs’ tongue labels, insoles and heels, with an in-vogue sail adorning the midsole to give the 550 its charming vintage feel.
