The Naturesque Western Hydrodynamic Research x Crocs Classic Clog
Gorpers, take notice.
The renaissance that Crocs has experienced in the past decade is unprecedented. There was a time it was touted as the ugliest footwear ever created, but since then has not only blazed its own trail, but established its own lane, becoming the catalyst of a new trend. Thanks in part to collaborations with the likes of SZA, Salehe Bembury, et al., its mold has become a template for imitators—a coterie that includes the lifestyle space’s biggest names.
Still, there’s been a shift in the people’s palette that’s contributed to its acceptance. Whether or not its due to the lockdown, people are gravitating towards a more functional and utility-driven footwear and there’s none better than Crocs themselves to fill that gap, and no better partner than Western Hydrodynamic Research.
WHR is the brainchild of Pat Towersey, “a community-based organization that provides immersive experiences, educational programs, and beach utility products.”
Taking inspiration from Southern California coves, caves, tide pools, and coastal cliffs, the collaboration on the Classic Clog features graphics of rocky terrain engulfing the pair from the toe tips to the rear. Orange banners, contrasted by “WHR” in black, shares duties in securing the fit on the heel. Underneath all is a tan base.
As per usual practice, the collaboration will include exclusive Jibbitz. One shaped to WHR’s brick and the other a canyon mold.
The Western Hydrodynamic Research x Crocs Classic Clog is priced at US$80 and is currently being raffled off on Crocs’ website until 8 February, 12pm, EDT.
