Yohji Yamamoto Looks to Y’s Roots With adidas
A collection dated to its 1972 origins.
Among the many names known in current age, Japanese fashion designer Yohji Yamamoto holds a special position within the fashion industry. Holding multiple labels under his name, his debut sees a notable history dated all the way back to 1972 with Y’s.
This time, looking back to his roots, Yamamoto returns for Spring/Summer 2023 with a Japan-exclusive capsule collection in partnership with sports label adidas.
Tapping Kyoto-based pattern designer Koizumi Yoshihiro, an apparel lineup of t-shirts, hoodies and tracksuits display cactus flower graphics alongside co-branded embroideries and three-stripes motifs.
On the footwear section, avant-garde aesthetics are reflected with a black pair of Super Position, an updated Superstar model with stitched three-stripes lining on the sides. Keeping it classic on a white Forum Hi, additional buckle straps are added to the silhouette alongside debossed prints on the edges.
Set to pre-release via a pop-up store at Isetan Shinjuku from 15 to 21 February, a general release will follow on 1 March via Y’s boutiques and THE SHOP YOHJI YAMAMOTO.
