The late Virgil Abloh left such an indelible mark in many facets of culture. His design DNA is the HeLa cell of the contemporary art world. So motile, so transfigurative that even in his passing, his imprint can still be seen. Now, his beloved Chi-Town will carry his torch by producing a capsule collection between his Off-White brainchild and his beloved hometown team, the Chicago Bulls.

For those who know him best knows how much Virgil loves basketball. Thus, the partnership would surely have been inline with his own wishes. Put together by close associate and Bulls’ advisor Don C and Off-White CEO Andrea Grilli, the capsule collection will feature two colorways of the streetwear staple.

From the featured images, the entire Chicago Bulls roster are dressed in them during some downtime from the hardwood. All-Stars Damar DeRozan and Zach Levine don the purple and black, while the rest of the elite don the red and beige.

Branding elements take centerstage as seen on Off-White’s on the chest as well as the custom insignia on the full-back featuring Benny the Bull. “Bulls” cursive typography is affixed to the top with “ABLOH” right under Benny, bedazzled; the same crusting adorning the basketball he’s ready to dunk.

Reminiscent of Jeff Hamilton’s work, motifs run amok its spaces, with asymmetry the MO.  Homages, symbols regal the right sleeves with “abloh” presiding over the right pocket, while Off-White’s signature diagonal stripes mirror on the left, together with “Milano Italy, Chicago U.S.A.” adjacent.

It’s yet to be seen if anything else will chaperone the two varsity jackets, in addition to the cap with snakeskin patterns on the visor. Along with the team’s logo on the front panel, comes an emblem on the side featuring “Paris” embroidered over the country’s flag colors.

A price point hasn’t been disclosed but they’re expected to be released on 2 February on Off-White’s website.

Elsewhere from the Chi, check out the Nike Air Jordan 2 “Cool Grey”.
