Nike Goes Back in Time With the Air Ship “University Gold”
A new iteration of the "Jordans before Jordans" shoe.
The Nike Air Ship may be a mysterious name, but news of a pair sold for $1.492 million at an auction in 2021 is enough to prove that the silhouette may be more than what we thought it could be. Known to be the “Jordans before Jordans”, the basketball giant was spotted in a pair way before we were introduced to the Air Jordan 1s.
Following ambiguous news of the Air Ship being banned in 1985, the silhouette was long secreted before being reintroduced in 2020 through the Jordan brand’s “New Beginnings” pack. This time, looking to the pair once again, the Swoosh label adds a “University Gold” iteration to the lineup of releases.
Presented in a two-tone color scheme, the pair rocks a classic outlook with white leather uppers, accented with gold throughout the swooshes, heel panels and shoelaces. As perforated toe boxes fills the front, Nike Air logos decorates the shoe tongue labels and heel tabs.
With an Asia release slated for 27th January, the Nike Air Ship “University Gold” is set to arrive via Nike and selected retailers for a price of $150.
