[Update 9 Jan 2023] Official release information and campaign images have dropped from the two brands through a funkadelic lookbook. Featuring funk artist Bootsy Collins and his family in their Cincinnati home, Marni’s iconic flowerprints and Carhartt WIP’s workwear earth tones are styled with a range of vintage props. It’s the 70’s funk era reimagined through modern eyes — an apt aesthetic choice for the playful-but-functional collection.

While select retailers have already presented the collection in its entirety, an official drop via Marni’s website will happen on 14 Jan. Japan will see a later release on 25 Jan. In the meantime, why not browse through the campaign images in the gallery above?

LINE

Carhartt Work in Progress (WIP), as the official extension of the main workwear line, offers a reimagined interpretation of classic pieces. It is often thought to be the streetwear sibling of Carhartt’s garments, with modernized elements that repackages the American heritage with contemporary takes. It is no surprise then that Carhartt WIP finds resonance with Milan-founded luxury house Marni.

Within the high fashion space, Marni is that quirky individual that stands out because they are unabashedly different from the rest. Utilizing a vibrant color palette and unorthodox accents to accentuate its graphic prints, the mixed aesthetic of Marni was progressive — a similar philosophy that Carhartt WIP adopts in its redesigns, despite their differing visual projects.

The coming together of both brands blends their differences into a comprehensive collaboration. Flaunting a line of shirts, outerwears, trousers and even slip-on shoes, Marni’s iconic flowers are printed across well-tailored, street-style shirts, outerwear and even slip-on shoes. This central motif is printed with vibrant greens and yellows for even greater grandeur.

If you are more of a fan of Carhartt’s approachable aesthetic, a line of the same garments in the workwear brand’s earth tones are also available. That is not to say that Marni’s flair is completely sidelined — varying shades of neutral colors have been spliced and stitched together for an à la mode contrast.

This Carhartt WIP x Marni collection will be made available in January 2023 at select boutiques. The e-commerce space sees an earlier access, with New York-based Baltini already carrying the entire line. The collaboration ranges from US$161 to US$726.

In other news, Dickies and mastermind Japan have a high fashion revamp of their own.
