The adidas Originals team visited and sampled the regional cuisines of many cultures and communities from around the world throughout 2022, in a symbolic sense. With the adidas Campus 80s, the Three Stripes adilicous series has returned to conjure the smoky flavor of Howlin’ Ray’s Nashville hot chicken, bringing to life the customs and tastes found in stateside restaurants and cafes.

The Los Angeles-based diner was first introduced as a food truck in 2015 and has since opened two eateries. Its signature black and red color scheme rarely appears on the upper, which is primarily made of cream. The heel tab, which is next to the smooth leather tongue and is covered in a jet-black pigment, is highlighted by thin red threading, which also appears on the shoe’s matching leather sock liner and thin nylon laces.

A muted golden dubrae bears the “Howlin’ Ray’s” label. Glossy red detailing covers the midfoot 3-Stripes in the brightened ensemble of the remaining real estate, and the name of the restaurant completes another insignia in a checkerboard-style typeface along the heel before coming to a third attempt along the tread.
