This year saw the release of NBA superstar Kevin Durant’s 15th signature shoe with Nike. Before he played for the Warriors, before he played for the Nets, he built his name with the Oklahoma City Thunder, where he donned the titular KD 3. 12 iterations later, Nike will be revamping the lineup and introducing a revival in 2023.
The “White Gold” colorway arrives in a regal makeup fitting for the basketball royalty that its namesake is. Integrated into the upper’s construction is Nike’s signature FlyWire technology, an innovative high-strength thread, usually nylon or vectran. Its designed to minimize weight and maximize support and precision, created to function like suspension bridges. The ethos represented in the subtle lining on the forefoot where the branding is imprinted in red.
The heavy-duty threading is visible on the quarter in sail, framed by the white leather overlays. Over it presides the Swoosh with a striking golden border. Beyond this, a mesh fabric form the tongue and the lining with the former in white and the latter sail.
KD’s logo adorn the footbed and tongue, with personal homages presented on the heel with the circular buttons holistically showing “KD35”, his initials and the number he wore while playing for OKC. Holding the shoe in place is the Zoom sole unit with a translucent rubber traction pad underfoot.
No firm release date has been disclosed, aside from a Spring 2023. On the contrary, the rumor mill has it that they’ll drop in time for the NBA All-Star weekend. Whenever they do, they’ll be available on Nike SNKRS with a RRP of US$130.
In other happenings under the Nike umbrella, the Nike Zoom Vomero 5 “Wolf Grey” is expected to drop soon as well.
