The Suede will forever be one of the quintessence of Puma’s body of work. It’s an icon, seen on the feet of iconoclasts, its narrative traversing some the world’s most important, history-altering moments. From the 1968 Mexico Olympics, to it being the uniform of a nascent Hip-Hop, to being immortalized on the basketball hardwood. No matter what name it went by, “CRACK”, “CLYDE”, or “SUEDE”, nothing will erase its mark on the zeitgeist, and henceforth, its evolution continues.

Before the year closes, it will see another iteration. The titular shoe will arrive in a “Navy” makeup, a followup to BEAMS and Puma’s first foray on the streetwear staple. As with many exclusives in the country, the Suede will be MIJ, Made in Japan. That entails being made in a Japanese factory where materials are carefully curated alongside a level of craftsmanship synonymous with the country.

The iteration is overhauled to become wider, for its silhouette to complement the baggy and wide fit of BEAMS apparel. That aside, it doesn’t deviate too much from its forebear, save for the color scheme. It’s base layer navy suede, the German brand’s vector logo on the profiles in leather, in white, as are the laces, sole unit, and interior. Inside, dual-branded imprints lay claim. Alternate laces are available too in a tonal navy shade.

The collaborative pair will be available from 10 December in BEAMS stores across Japan with a wider online release starting from the 17. The RRP is set at JPY21,450 (~US$156).

If navy shoes are what you’re looking for, consider the Nike Blazer Low Jumbo “White/Navy”.
