Thanks to the vintage boom in recent years, New Balance has finally found its footing in a precarious sneaker landscape. Perhaps, they were always ahead of their time, the rest of the world just needed to catch up. If every dog has its day, this dogged 1906R finally has theirs. In the status quo, the 1906R is one of NB’s most popular offerings right next to its successor in the 2002R.

It’s arrived in many other colorways but soon enough, this “Grey/Navy” duo will land on the pair. While the use of materials can be considered unrestrained, the choice of colors remain more controlled. The uniform look of tonal greys with hits of navy gives the shoe a more austere vibe, but that seems to be how the masses prefer it.

Light grey form the suede base layer of the pair. From there, the various overlays—whether it be the suede wings on the profiles or the TPU mould on the heel—transition to a darker shade. The textile on the toe box bares its own color while the overlays that frame it goes back to light. This rather beige scheme pairs with the midsole, laces, and tongue. Navy gives the pair some character while contrasted against its greyscale background. They come though the signature NLOCK and as an accent on the heel.

A release date hasn’t been disclosed at the time of writing but they’re expected to arrive within the coming weeks. It has a RRP of US$150.
