Back in December 2020, Fear of God’s Jerry Lorenzo put the now-buzzy “quiet quitting” into literal action by leaving his partnership with Nike to pursue a new endeavour with adidas. This new collaborative effort was expected to be a long-term project, with Jerry Lorenzo taking on the role of Global Head at adidas Basketball. As a show of his commitment, Fear of God’s third pillar and sub-label—Fear of God Athletics—will also be tied to his new position. Not to mention, a not-so-subtle three-stripes tattoo made its way onto the nape of Lorenzo’s neck. This shocking news was followed up with relative silence from FoG and Lorenzo’s side until 2022. A select few Fear of God x adidas pieces were revealed in Shanghai’s annual INNESECT festival.

The teaser revealed a line of crewneck sweaters, mock necks and oversized hoodies, which Lorenzo previously donned at a LA Lakers game. These apparel items were all dressed in a sunny pastel yellow, with co-branding placed prominently-but-minimally on the chests of each piece. The creative director also establishes in his caption that the adidas logo used on the collaborative badges were from the Trefoil’s 1950 to 1971 performance-focused period, which was its most “dominant and defining era”.

Unfortunately, these revealed pieces were exclusive merchandise for the exhibition, and were only displayed to showcase the two brands’ collective trademark. All that was left to soothe the anxiously-waiting crowd was Lorenzo’s promise that collaborative efforts will start dropping in the later half of 2022.

And it seems like the promise is being set into motion at rapid speed, perhaps due in part to Ye leaving a gaping hole in adidas’ inventory and projected performance reports. Revealed by @le.syndrome, a line of Fear of God Athletics x adidas Basketball lifestyle products have started production in the Chinese region. Products are expected to be unveiled on 21 Nov and released subsequently in December. Supporting images depict that potential lifestyle and basketball shoes are being produced, but not much else is known.
