While the Nike Air Force 1, which turned 40 this year, has been enjoying its share of the limelight, another pair of heritage sneaker from the Swoosh is set to take the spotlight with a grand comeback—in time for its 25th birthday.

The Nike Air Max 97 OG “Silver Bullet”, arguably one of the most important colorways in the Air Max 97 range, will return next month. The naming tells us that the Silver Bullet will arrive retaining its  futuristic silver outfit, much like the 2017 retro-ed edition.

Back in 1997, when the Air Max 97 “Silver Bullet” first whizzed into our collective consciousness, its silhouette and metallic silver colorway were a stark departure from its predecessors. Its designer Christian Tresser drew inspiration from Japan’s state-of-the-art bullet trains, giving the Air Max model a more rounded forefoot with fluid lines.

Tresser constructed the inaugural Nike Air Max 97 by overlaying silver leather panels over a silver mesh upper; in between them are 3M reflective strips for extra shimmer. Mini Nike Swooshes are branded in Varsity Red, while more silver appears on the mudguard, rounding up the shoe.

25 years on, the Air Max 97 “Silver Bullet” still looks and feels as fresh as ever. Nike has previously released collaborative editions (presumably to drum up the Silver Bullet’s upcoming re-release) and, now, fans can finally land their hands on a pair.

Retailing at US$185, the Silver Bullet will arrive on 11 Nov via Nike SNKRS. Mark your calendars, you won’t want to miss this one!
