The Nike Air Max 90 Futura is seeing a steady introduction into the Swoosh’s spotlight. As the revamped version of the AM90, an iconic silhouette originally designed by Tinker Hatfield back in the 90s, the “Futura” extension proves Nike’s commitment to the modernisation of this Air Max. It’s not every day that Nike would name a model after its logo font — arguably a core element of the brand’s own transformation from Blue Ribbon Sports to the Nike we know today.

And what better way to celebrate a silhouette than to tie it to another big yearly celebration? Though Christmas has yet to come, the Swoosh is already gearing up their Lunar New Year collection for the upcoming Year of the Rabbit. This festive theme overhauls the Nike Air Max 90 Futura in a host of colors, a stark departure from previous releases which were simpler in its hues.

Its layered composition becomes a numbered panel in a coloring page, with each layer taking on a vibrant shade. Swatches of bright purple, apt mandarin orange colors, hot pink and pastel blues overlay the white mesh upper. This mix of colors imitates the brightly-lit nature of Lunar New Year celebrations, where families come together dressed in their best. To ensure depth among the multitude of colors, a black suede overlay trims the upper.

This exuberant Nike Air Max 90 Futura “Lunar New Year” will likely drop in the tail end of 2022 or early 2023. If previous AM90 Futura prices are anything to go off by, the retail price should sit at US$150. For closer looks, look to the top slider!
