Too Hot and Too Cool: MARKET x Havaianas Zip Top Slides
Perfect for that summer-to-spring transition.
As the season changes, so will our footwear considerations. Flip-flops are mostly a summer staple but the leading purveyor of them would think otherwise. Havaianas is shifting paradigms of what the most archetypal footwear can be. For their sophomore effort with MARKET, they introduce a hitherto unseen design concept, mixing their Brazilian spirit with the ingenious minds from the LA-based cult label.
MARKET founder, Mike Cherman expressing his thoughts on the collaboration: “Building a fully modular system into a sandal enables Havaianas to continue on this road of designing and developing new uppers for their already iconic line of sandals.”
The design innovation introduces a retrofitting that would see the flip-flop last through the spring-to-summer transition. A modular puffer jacket can be zipped onto to the pair along the footbed for the colder evenings and unzipped during the warmer afternoons. The two-toned pair, breaks off from its makers’ usual vibrant aesthetic and adopts a more minimalistic approach with a dual-branded tag on the upper and the strap of the footbed. While sizing doesn’t cover the half, there’s a heel-lock on the upper to provide a more secure fit if need be.
Design consultant Daniel Bailey says that “cross-functional utility is often the end goal for a lot of the projects I’m involved in, the North Star being to create a product that is constructed in a manner that aligns with the body’s ergonomics and is seamless in its transformation from one form into another. Working closely with Mike, this is something I think we achieved with the Market x Havaianas silhouette.”
For all the slew of footwear releases both brands have released this year, the MARKET x Havaianas Zip Top Slides is one to tide through most of the year.
