As minimalism overrides maximalism in the fashion world, JJJJound’s palettes finds an audience among those that favor simple neutrals over extravagance. Their pared back aesthetic has also been a welcomed addition to the sneakersphere, with the Montreal-based label’s collaborative pieces selling out like hotcakes.
As JJJJound’s presence as a collaborator becomes more pervasive in the industry, New Balance remains the brand oft associated with the minimalist label. And their partnership remains strong, with JJJJound bringing its earthy neutrals on yet another silhouette — the 991.
Reminiscent of JJJJound’s first collaborative effort with New Balance on the 990v3, a premium gray-toned brown coats the pigskin suede on the mudguard and panels. Earthier colors are utilised as accents across the toebox and collar while the mesh remains a palatable gray. Alongside New Balance’s usual N logo and “New Balance 991” marking on the tongue is JJJJound’s a Serif mark on the heel tab in white. Rounding out the design is a foam midsole that blends white and cream. All colors and additions blend seamlessly — nothing is especially jarring or out of place, as JJJJound would have it.
The JJJJound x New Balance 991 “Grey” is set to drop in December this year. Though not much else is known besides vague release dates, we think that circulating images courtesy of @dane3fune means that more details will follow soon.
