XLARGE x Champion Capsule Evokes College Years Nostalgia
90's nostalgia in a capsule.
Nothing screams 90’s aesthetic more than XLARGE and Champion, both of which dominated the scene across different subcultures. It is no surprise then that these two giants have joined forces to unleash collections that married sportswear and streetwear. Their nostalgic factor explains both their unparalleled prominence in vintage and thrift shops. And as retro makes its regular resurgence every few years, XLARGE and Champion are contributing to its comeback with their own collaborative spin on vintage college wear.
In signature 90’s style, XLARGE’s word mark is prominently sprawled across the range of sweatshirts and sweat pants with 1991 — the LA streetwear’s date of establishment. Per usual Champion style, its logo is stitched subtly on each garment. While XLARGE contributes in dynamic logo print, Champion supplies material and technique. Utilising the sportswear’s iconic REVERSE WEAVE, the collaborative fleece pieces are cut to ensure minimal shrinkage and maximum durability. Not to mention, the sleeves and hem are ribbed ensuring an oversized (or XLARGE) fit that still maintains an athletic silhouette.
These design elements are printed atop collegiate colors —green, navy and purple— alongside neutral ash and black. Exuding a classic American college look, it recreates the vintage wear feel on a new garment. This XLARGE x Champion capsule collection will drop on 22 October on XLARGE’s retail stores in Japan and select online retailers. Crewneck sweats will retail at JPY14,300 (~US$96) while the sweatpants will retail for JPY13,200 (~US$89).
