In the intersection between graffiti art and streetwear, you’ll find a unique triple collaboration that has a special place in our hearts: the SNKRDUNK x atmos x COOK tees that roved Japan’s picturesque Hiroshima to the metropolitan Nagoya — and is now landing on Singapore’s sunny shores on 15 October 2022. Which, not-so-coincidentally, is also our SNKRDUNK Singapore store’s grand opening day!

SNKRDUNK x atmos x COOK Collection

SNKRDUNK x atmos x COOK Collab Tees

Comprised of 11 t-shirt designs, this triple collaboration features artist COOK’s trademark character COOK-chan with varying animated expressions and colors. As you would expect from the rounded character’s name, the adorable mascot dons a chef’s hat at all times. Keen eyes will note that the background behind each COOK-chan is made of different patterns. These were distinctively inspired by shoe models, tying SNKRDUNK and retailer atmos’ passion for sneakers into the collaborative effort. Accompanying the strikingly vibrant design is the “SNKRDUNKCON” branding — a nod to the multiple location exhibitions that COOK conducted for this partnership.

While the collaborative shirt’s back is focused on COOK’s sneaker-esque design, atmos branding is printed onto the front of the quality white cotton. SNKRDUNK’s logo can be found subtly near the hem.

Are you able to figure out their source inspirations? Fret not if you’re having trouble, our friendly staff at SNKRDUNK Singapore would be more than happy to explain each detail when you pop by the store. Not to mention, you’ll get to touch and feel the tees first-hand!

Who is COOK?

As mentioned above, when the t-shirts were sold exclusively in Japan, Osaka-native COOK also made rounds with the tees and held live graffiti painting sessions to promote the collection. COOK’s distinctive stylistic approach to graffiti earned him a spot as the only Japanese member of “DISSIZIT”, an apparel brand owned by OG SLICK — the influential graffiti artist that plastered L.A.’s walls with Mickey hands in the 80’s, and eventually his spray art invaded even art galleries in the country.

COOK, too, enjoys a prolific graffiti art journey. Starting his artistic foray at the youthful age of 20, he was indulging in an art form that was relatively unknown in Japan at the time. Street artists were far and few between in his city, so COOK jetted to Los Angeles to polish his skills. This pivotal moment established COOK as a name known both in Japan and around the world. Famously, he has collaborated with Japanese anime “Devil Man” and even worked on the official artwork of 2011’s Evangelion movie.

His versatile art has also found a home in the musical sphere, with record label “Delicious Vinyl” commissioning him as a designer. DREAMS COME TRUE, Japan’s legendary pop group, also utilised his skilful aestheticism for their concert stage designs. The graffiti artist even worked on an upcoming adidas release for skaters. Beyond collaborative efforts, COOK’s acclaim has allowed him to hold his own solo exhibitions and to be on panels at international mural festivals.

SNKRDUNK & atmos

SNKRDUNK and atmos, as prominent figures in the sneaker and streetwear scene in Japan, have found their paths cross multiple times.

Notably, Yuta Uchiyama, the CEO of SNKRDUNK’s parent company SODA Inc., has had interviews with Hidefumi Motoaki, atmos’ CEO, to discuss happenings in the sneaker scene. However, it is only within this triple collaboration with COOK that the two drivers have officially partnered up, thus making the tees also a celebratory mark of the coming together of two sneaker-loving brands.

The SNKRDUNK x atmos x COOK collaborative tees will be available at our Singapore flagship in S, M, L, XL sizes. At the moment, only three designs of the 11 are making a Singapore appearance (as seen in the slider), but all designs are available on the SNKRDUNK app.
