[Update 31 Oct 2022] With its 4 November release date nearing, New Balance has begun pumping out more teasers of the New Balance 990v6, including a reimagination of its 1982 “Runners Aren’t Normal” campaign. In the video and images, New Balance ambassadors like Action Bronson and olympian Sydney McLaughlin are seen alongside runners of various shapes and sizes in the updated 990v6 featuring NB’s Fuel Cell technology.

True to the campaign’s familial theme, the New Balance Made in USA 990v6 will launch in a range of sizes (mens, womens and kids), with an additional Hook-and-Loop version for the kids. Prices range from US$109.90 for kids’ to US$200 for adult models.

[Update 13 Oct 2022] Official photos of the New Balance 990v6 “Grey” in the silhouette’s iconic titular colorway are here. Similar to the earlier-leaked kid’s pair, the adult version references previous 990s but also throws in a few new details, such as the updated 990 font on the heel and tongue label. The biggest overhaul would be an entirely new midsole cushioning via the introduction of New Balance’s Fuel Cell technology to the sole unit. Take a first look at the all new New Balance 990v6 “Grey” while we wait for more release details to come!

LineThe first New Balance 990 was released as the footwear brand’s premium running shoe in 1982 but, in the four decades since, the iconic sneaker has taken on a life of its own. Its numerous iterations and easy-to-wear quality make it the star attraction in NB’s entire stable of sneaker and running shoe models. From v1 to v5, every New Balance fan seems to have their own favorite 990.

The Boston house has been dropping one critically-acclaimed release after another since Teddy Santis took over the reins as Creative Director. Yet, on the New Balance 990 side, it’s been all quiet—until now that is (Santis did tease the New Balance 990v6 early last year but NB has been uncharacteristically quiet about the new silhouette).

Now, fresh images of the New Balance 990v6 have finally surfaced, thanks to sneaker account @addctdgram. Although the pair pictured is a kids’ pair, it’s the closest look at the details on the 990v6 yet. Longtime 990 fans would find the suede and mesh construction familiar; the “N” logo also features a ribbed finishing, nodding towards the popular v3 model.

Santis continues to work his magic here by blending sport-inspired elements into the v6, swapping the ENCAP for a full Fuel Cell sole unit and giving it a more streamlined appearance. Earlier, Action Bronson also debuted a multi-color 990v6, showcasing the pair’s versatility.

Is the wait for the New Balance 990v6 almost over? According to @addctdgram, the pictured grey pair is an “early factory sample” and a release date of early 2023 has been tagged to it, so it does seem like it will be a while more before we can get our hands on it. Keep your eyes peeled as we continue to update the latest on the NB 990v6!

Meanwhile, take a first look at Teddy Santis’ latest New Balance MADE in USA collection.
