Nike Counts Down to the Air Force 1’s 40th Birthday
The first pair of Nike Air Force 1 was created on 10 October 1982.
Before the year wraps up, Nike looks set to release one more pair of special edition Air Force 1, in celebration of the 40th birthday of the iconic sneaker.
This newly-emerged pair of Air Force 1 Mid “40th Anniversary” looks nondescript at first, but a bevy of “anniversary” design details give it away. Debossed at the heel is the 40-insignia; the text “82-22”, another birthday reference, can be found printed on the right insole.
Giving the shoe a more heartfelt touch are its origin details featured on the inner tongue label. Some of the details: its place of creation (Beaverton, Oregon), the date it was created (10 October 1982), and the signature of its designer Bruce Kilgore.
Other more subtle details include a premium leather upper in Sail, topped off with a classy brown Swoosh on its side, and royal gold accents by way of golden dubrae and lace eyelets. Also, the number “1” is embroidered over the Nike logo on the tongue.
Nike has yet to announce an official release date for this pair of celebratory AF1 Mid, but a drop on its actual birthday 10 October will definitely make the occasion sweeter.
