Re(de)fining Sneakers: Salomon x MM6 Maison Margiela Thigh-highs for SS23
Thigh-high sneakers, enough said.
Maison Margiela never fears the outlandish, and their “diffused” line MM6—oft deemed the younger iteration of Margiela’s aesthetic—preaches the same fashion philosophy, but at a more palatable price point. But as MM6 pushes out innovative collections through the seasons, the numerical younger sibling has solidified their place in the fashionsphere, allowing them to move beyond Margiela’s siamese counterpart to an individual force of their own.
One such breakaway manifested in MM6’s SS23 runway. Shedding away their parent-line’s notorious reputation of hard-to-break-in tabi shoes, MM6 has appointed French outdoor brand Salomon to do the heavy lifting in their footwear category for the upcoming spring and summer. The result is a range of reworked Salomon silhouettes, of which includes the season’s hot topic: thigh-high boots with sneaker soles.
The lanky boots themselves are not necessarily a novel innovation from MM6’s offerings, but its newness comes from Salomon’s sole tooling fitted right below. It’s high fashion up top and functional-accessible down below — the distinctive amalgamation that makes MM6 the preferred sibling in the eyes of some younger fashion enthusiasts.
Salomon also manages to get its hands onto MM6’s Adv Skin 5 running vest, redesigning it such that it’s useful for staying hydrated on the go. Not to mention, it’s also light and breathable enough to be a layering piece in summer’s stifling heats. Nothing much else is known in relation to release date except that it’ll hit the markets in Fall 2023.
However, we expect more information to be released from MM6 and Salomon’s avant-garde chambers in the new year. ‘Till then, why not check out more images in the top slider?
