Nike Air Flight Lite Mid Gets a “Lemon” Twist
When life gives you lemons, apply them to a shoe.
2022 has seen a slew of retro releases from Nike with many celebrating a milestone anniversary; be it 20 years, 25, 30—for this particular one, and even 40 for the Nike Air Force 1. While we’re still within its 30th anniversary, and though this pair has been overshadowed by its contemporaries from its epoch, the Air Flight Lite has seen some form of revival, albeit slowly, since it returned to market in late-2021.
It doesn’t have the advantage of a grand narrative other than for being worn by Scottie Pippen during his legendary days with the Chicago Bulls. No matter, the Swoosh, for this release relies mostly on the silhouette’s heritage charm, save for one contemporary touch: the “Lemon” twist that accent the shoe in various parts: the eyestays, the outsole lining, a slice on the tongue tag and its underside, and the “Nike Air” embroidery on the heel.
As for the rest, the upper retains its perforated leather construction in white, at the same time building contrast with the black nubuck in the quarter, mid-foot sole unit, ankle collar, and the heel strip.
There’s currently no information about a release date yet but with the upcoming NBA season, a push for basketball shoes might be in Nike’s agenda, so it’s still safe to assume a release date is well-within the year, especially since it’s its 30th anniversary.
