From the Cookie Jar: Nike WMNS Air Force 1 Low “Wheat Mocha”
When less becomes more, and old becomes new.
[Update 16 Dec] We promised to deliver the news and here it is. With an official release date of 16th December, the Nike WMNS Air Force 1 Low “Wheat Mocha” will be made available via Nike and selected retailers for a retail price of $110.
When it comes to reworking an age-old classic, it’s not always about how to add to it but how to take from it. As the axiom goes: “less is more.”
The Nike Air Force 1 celebrates its 40th anniversary this year and the Swoosh has done well to honor its most beloved silhouette, delivering a slew of new reimagining and colorways. Four decades is a very long time in any capacity, more so in the fast-moving sneakersphere. With so much in their catalogue, Nike digs deep into its cookie jar and pulls out a colorway from the early-naughties: the “Wheat Mocha” from its CO.JP campaign.
The silhouette is adorned in the titular colorway with “Wheat” suede making up the upper while adorned with “Mocha” accents on the tongue tag, collar, outsole, and its other minutiae. But things take an interesting turn when the body actually becomes a ‘cadaver.’
Putting the AF1 on the surgical table, incisions are made on the lateral revealing some of its inner workings. Through a cut on the quarter, a slice of baby blue is revealed on the neck of the Swoosh in contrast to the Mocha canvas underneath it. Another on the mudguard, reveals debossed floral pattern over the grey cast. Simplicity with an edge, this iteration definitely echos the tones of autumn.
Not much is known aside from what’s discernible from the accompanying images, but when information does reach us, we’ll make sure it reaches you.
