It seems like as Converse’s years of existence increases, so does it sole units. The definition of platform shoes saw a category expansion when Converse released its Run Star Motion, the chunkiest of the Star’s offerings. Even bigger than Rick Owens’ reimagination of the Chuck 70, and that’s a lot. The wavy sole unit found popularity on 2022’s streets, with the younger crowd taking them out for a spin as a fashion statement.

Of course, the Converse team’s market research is well-aware that fashion is trending towards weighty shoes. Think Nike’s revival of the Lunar Force 1’s thick soles, Balenciaga’s Steroid Boots (name is self-explanatory), New Balance’s 9060 flared out soles… And with Fall and Winter’s harsher conditions on our heels, Converse is releasing a new silhouette that protects and elevates — literally.

Dubbed the Converse All Star 100 Chunk Z SHIN-HI, this pair is evolution of original Converse All Star 100 Chunk Z Hi. A hi-top made higher, the shoe is now expected to end at the shin, hence the SHIN-HI label. Not only that, the curved arches of the sole is 22mm higher than its predecessor. The voluminous lift on both upper and sole makes the Chunk Z even boot-ier and is bound to be a seamless inclusion in your FW rotation.

Defending your feet against stormy weather is the water-repellant canvas on the upper, which is resistant to unexpected splashes of water and wet dirt. Side zippers make this tall shoe an easy slip on and kick off. The Converse All Star 100 Chunk Z Hi will come in two essential colors: black and white.

This versatile pair will land on BAIT and UNDEFEATED on 28 September, 9AM JST (8AM SGT) and retail for JPY10,450 (~US$73). A second release will be made available via Converse Japan on 30 September. For more pictures, look above at the slider.
