From 214 Mulberry Street: Aimé Leon Dore x New Balance 550
Made for the basketball court, thriving in the lounge room.
[Update 25 Oct] Scheduled for Fall/Winter 2022 release, it’s been confirmed that the Aimé Leon Dore x New Balance 550 in neutral colorways “White” and “Grey” draw begins on 31 October at 11 a.m. ET on the Aimé Leon Dore website. Don’t miss out on this timeless classic.
In less than a decade, Teddy Santis has already left an indelible mark, not just in 214 Mulberry Street where his Aimé Leon Dore flagship and Café Leon Dore stands, but also on street fashion itself. ALD has even taken New Balance by their hands and led it to the fore of mainstream consciousness. Nevertheless, being made Creative Director with NB doesn’t mean he’s let go of the reins of his ALD thoroughbred.
Sometime this year, a collaboration between the two parties will see the release of another round of 550s, a retro that’s seeing a resurgence as a product of the partnership. While its given way for the inline models to get their own bag, an ALD co-sign on the pair usually takes it to a higher strata.
Incoming are two pairs, both more minimalistic than their predecessors, calmer, more neutral. More befitting of the lounge room than the blacktop they were originally made for. The “White” pair sees a dominant white leather construction contrary to the “Grey” that’s built on more suede. A touch of blue lands on the latter pair on the tongue tag’s ALD branding. Save for that, both pairs sees an aged finish through the cream sole units.
There’s no release date yet but the pairs are confirmed to go for US$130 on ALD’s brick-and-click.
Much like the Aimé Leon Dore x New Balance 550s, the adidas Forum High “Cuts & Slices” is also from New York, with love. An homage to one of Bed-Stuy’s prized pizzerias.
