WACKO MARIA x Neckface Capsule is Weirdly Wonderful
Heaven and hell meet on a Hawaiian shirt.
Few are on par with WACKO MARIA when it comes to outlandish but attractive designs, but the Japanese label has definitely found a soulmate connection with LA-based graffiti artist Neckface. The grotesque-but-why-am-i-transfixed works of Neckface are unabashed in their brutal humor, and these designs have been enlisted by WACKO MARIA to celebrate its flagship store PARADISE TOKYO’s on more than one occasion.
For their 7th Anniversary, WACKO MARIA taps on Neckface’s shared appreciation for the odd and fanciful to create an apparel collection. The lead in this capsule is the Hawaiian shirt that sports the gates of heaven, angels, a grandma knitting, hellfire, alcoholic demons and topless women. An eccentric mix of graphics that are quintessentially Neckface atop a loose-fitted Hawaiian shirt that WACKO MARIA is known for — the best of both worlds, truly!
Accompanying this bold shirt are throwovers that read “777” on the chest. This is likely in relation to the 7th Anniversary celebrations, but perhaps also pokes at the number’s significance to religion. Rounding out the collection are Ska Jackets and Hawaiian shirts with 56 Tattoo Studio’s iconic skulls filling up the width of the garment.
This collaborative collection is now available on WACKO MARIA’s site and ranges from JPY8,800(~US$62) to JPY93,500 (~US$654).
