Amidst all its buzzy collabs and new releases, adidas has managed to squeeze in a little surprise drop for fans—a brand new sneaker silhouette that still honors the footwear brand’s legacy.
Say hello to the adidas Superstar “Core Black” (though the name might be a tad misleading as fans of the Three Stripes would immediately recognize its influences). Combining two classic adidas shoe styles, the Superstar and Samba, the adidas Superstar “Core Black” gives off familiar and stranger vibes at the same time.
On the forefoot, the core black leather upper features the Superstar’s iconic shell-toe, but traces of the Samba are peppered throughout. The Samba’s toe cap is etched out in grey atop the shell-toe. The Core Black also has a long tongue that can be flipped downwards, another signature of the adidas Samba.
Starting from the first of the three stripes, the shoe is “sliced” diagonally into two halves, separating the leather Superstar and canvas Samba uppers. The Samba’s classic gum outsole completes the shoe, but also appears chunkier and bears resemblance to the Superstar’s sole construction.
The adidas Originals Superstar “Core Black” is set to drop on 2 September and retails at JPY16,500, or approximately US$119. Follow along for more updates.
