For a shoe brand that doesn’t have streetwear in its core branding DNA, Clarks has been a quiet but consistent mainstay in the scene. Tracing Clarks’ baby steps into the scene means mentioning its presence in the hip hop scene. From Wu-Tang Clan publicly announcing their love for the Wallabee boot to being spotted on Drake and Ye on more than one occasion, Clarks might not be a brand that one naturally associates with the street scene, but its functional-but-fashionable boots definitely have their moments.

Among these moments are major collaborative projects that involved street and sneaker staples – BAPE, Carhartt WIP and Stüssy, just to name a few. And now, alpine outfitter-turned-luxury-group Moncler is joining this extensive lineup to create a 5-piece MONWALLABEE collection (no prizes for guessing why it got its name).

The collection can sort-of be separated into two designs: one with suede/nylon puffed uppers and the other with teddy alpine-inspired wools. In the first iteration, premium suede wrap the panels and is jointed by a puffed nylon tongue. Both of these materials are a nod to Moncler’s line of mountaineering-ready jackets. Three colorways — “Oak/Yellow,” “Black/Green,” and “Charcoal/Blue” — are available for this design.

Though Moncler is oft associated with puffer jackets with glossy textures, they also carry a line of Blonville Reversible Teddy Jackets that expose tightly-coiled wool. This appearance is transferred onto the last two MONWALLABEEs in the collection. These ultra-comfy selections will come in a neutral beige and neon orange for those looking to have a citrusy pop of color this cold season.

Besides the inclusion of varied textures, what makes this collaborative effort standout is the attention to detail. Each pair comes with fobs embossed with Moncler’s vector and the brand’s year of inception “1952”. Laces are swapped out for toggle fastening, which also has the Moncler figure etched. This is a sartorial choice that’s been spotted on numerous Moncler offerings, so no surprises there (but a welcomed choice, especially on snowy days where our fingers are hiding in gloves).
