Perks and Mini (P.A.M.) has been an “if you know, you know” (or iykyk, as the online crowd would say) brand that has found footing in the fashion scene populated by the free-spirited and quirky-inclined. It was first established as a streetwear label in 2000 but eventually evolved into a multi-disciplinary brand based in Paris that encompasses music, nightlife spaces and art. However, the brand’s core still lies in its funky and fresh graphic design that expresses a carefree attitude towards fashion. Among these illustrations, one of their most recognizable would be the hand-drawn flowers with an eyeball-like centre.

These off kilter and cheeky graphics are employed as the main characters in this upcoming Perks and Mini S/S 2022 x Vans Vault collection. The capsule will consist of sneakers, shirts, socks and even a mug. But as sneakerheads, our focus are inadvertently drawn to the eye-catching redesign of the UA OG Authentic LX and UA OG Classic Slip-on LX.

In this P.A.M. x Vans Authentic, Vans’ usual checkerboard has transformed into a stitched iteration and warped into a hypnotic pattern. The tongue is emblazoned with Perks and Mini’s eyeball flower in an orange that shouts out at you, but is deftly complemented with a vibrant violet. This orange flower motif also makes an appearance on the heel, insole and interestingly, on the purple outsole. Among all the wackiness, the toebox quietly remains a black suede.

In similar fashion, the P.A.M. x Vans Classic Slip-on sports the same whorled checkerboard stitching on the upper. The hand-drawn flowers also make an extravagant showing, albeit in a violet on the upper, but changes into a chocolate brown on the insole and outsole. Both pairs also include co-branding on the insole.

Accompanying these two striking pairs are also spiral checkered socks in mocha brown and a tawny brown sweatshirt with a similar print. A white t-shirt sees a more elaborate graphic design, with the distorted checkerboard print acting as a backdrop to a camping tent and a creature (or creatures!) taking a bath in a wooden bucket. Last, but certainly not least, is a mug with the flower and checker print in purple.

Overall, there’s nothing minimalist or ordinary about this collection, and that’s exactly what makes Perks and Mini’s collaborations stand out in the saturated space. This collaboration is scheduled for release on 27 August. Retail prices are as follows:
