Nike Legacy Collection: A Foot Locker Exclusive

Earlier this year, it was announced that Nike would be going back to the drawing board in terms of its distribution strategy, reducing some of its stock with Foot Locker and allocate a direct-to-consumer model for specific styles in its inventory. The retailer will still have access to those products, albeit in lower quantities. However, controversy stirred when it was misreported that the Swoosh would be pulling out their entire catalogue.

With this exclusive Legacy Collection, let’s assume that’s all far and behind. The capsule will consist of various vintage-themed sneakers and apparel celebrating the love of all things basketball. Every pair is stamped with the “Peace/Basketball” badge as a nod to the heritage Nike basketball logo. Prices will range from US$105 to US$170 and will be sold exclusively at Foot Locker.

First on the list is the Nike Zoom Flight 95. This is what futurism looked like in the ’90s: metallic embellishments, embroidery detailing, and alien-esque “bug eyes”. It speaks so much of the design language of the time that in the contemporary age, anyone can correctly guess which era they originated from.

Nothing embodied the ’90s quite as perfectly as the Nike Air More Uptempo. Even for the era’s standards, the shoe was loud. If less is more, this one is—more is more. The oversized “AIR” on the upper is as showstopping as Scottie Pippen was when he wore it all the way to an Olympic gold medal in ’96. There was no way something this attention-grabbing can be limited to the court. Evidently, the Air More Uptempo find its relevance today as a lifestyle sneaker with a Supreme collaboration under its belt.

Out of all the shoes on this list, there’s none with a stronger pedigree than the Nike Air Force 1 LV8. The AF1 silhouette has transcended its own epoch finding its place in the unerodable Mount Rushmore of sneakers. This ‘LV8-ion’ of the silhouette consists of full-grain leather, high-quality suede, and premium textiles.

Following close behind is the Air Force 1 Shadow. This iteration belongs on the runway just as much as it did on the hardwood. The “Shadow” namesake comes from the dual-Swooshes and layering motif that envelopes every component of the upper.

Last but certainly not least, is the Nike WMNS Dunk High. It was once the quintessential hoops sneaker—”born on the hardwood but raised on the streets.” Where the Dunk High stands taller than its hightop counterparts on this list is its versatility as a canvas. These Dunks feature bold color blocking and a retro, pastel color palette channelling the energy of the ’80s.

There’s a full array of apparel to go with any of the sneakers. Graphic tees, jackets, bottoms and shorts—the whole enchilada. Did anything catch your fancy?

Check out the Wacko Maria x Vans Authentic collection, if you’re going for a more vibrant aesthetic.
