First Look: Nike Air More Uptempo “Animal”

The ’90s was the renaissance of the sneaker world, the era that birthed partnerships that we today call iconic. There was Michael Jordan and his nonpareil signature line, Penny Hardaway and his Air Pennys and Air Foamposite One, Gary Payton and his Air Zoom Flight ‘98 “The Glove”. Among them too was Scottie Pippen and a sui generis called the Nike Air More Uptempo.

The ’90s was just a time where extravagance and flamboyance seemed to be the common motif. A time that seemed bigger than life itself. And perhaps no silhouette epitomized this maximalism quite as well. From the enlarged midsoles, to the chunky perforated upper, this was a pair designed to have more of everything.

If the conspicuous 3M relflective “AIR” branding in the original wasn’t eye-catching enough, this iteration sees it dressed in disparate safari animal prints over the sail white tumbled leather base. Branding elements come in scarlet red on the lateral midsole, heel, and on the tongue.

There’s no release date yet nor do we have any official look but these photos should suffice to keep us anticipating. Check back in to see if this “Animal” has arrived in our concrete jungle.

While you’re here, check out the Air Jordan 7 SE “Afrobeats”, an iteration with a musical pedigree from West Africa.
