[Update 21 Sep] Official photos of the intercontinental collaborative pair have surfaced. The shoes will be housed in a special box with nods to South Africa, Detroit, and the Philippines—creating a common thread between the tripartite’s work on the Air Jordan 2 this year. There’s still no release date but one should arrive before the holiday season.
The Air Jordan 2 has been experiencing a surging popularity these days with aficionados and casual enthusiasts alike. People who weren’t into overdesigned basketball silhouettes before usually find the AJ2 one of the most palatable among all the retro Jordans on the menu. An acquired taste, the gateway, the key to the pandora’s box that holds a collection of classics they never expected they would like.
This year alone, it’s become a canvas for collaborations with premium retailers from cities and continents far away from its origin. Case in point: the Two 18 pair from Detroit, Maison Chateau Rouge from France, and TITAN from the Philippines. The latest addition in the lineup of partners in the lab is South African boutique, Shelflife.
From its inception, Bruce Kilgore designed the shoes with high-end luxury in mind. Thus, becoming a perfect amalgam of performance technology and lifestyle aesthetic. All things considered, Shelflife’s iteration respectfully maintains much of what made the model beloved, like the faux lizard skin and tamed color palette. This time, a tonal sail with strikes of orange on the Wings logo on the tongue, the insole, and fractions of the outsole.
While the colorway is similar to the work of its previous collaborators, Shelflife adds their own touch by way of a Jumpman hangtag with their logo debossed on the underside. The motto “TEAM ONLY” is separated between the pair, stitched behind the tongue.
Consider the Air Jordan 2 Low a premium upgrade to the weighty Air Force 1 (also a Kilgore design) silhouette. Have a better look to help you form an opinion about it from the on-feet photos below.
A release date hasn’t been announced other than a holiday drop. But trust that we’ll give you an update before the Christmas decorations come on.
