First Look: New Balance 1906R Goes on a Tear With “Cordura Pack”

Here's your first look at the New Balance 1906R "Cordura Pack".

[Update 9 Nov 2022] The wait is almost over as a Japan release date of 18th November has been confirmed for the New Balance 1906R “Cordura Pack”, set to be made available via New Balance and selected retailers for 16,500 JPY (~US$115) a pair.

[Update 11 Oct 2022] Official images of the New Balance 1906R “Cordura Pack” are here, together with a potential release date for the China region. The Boston footwear brand has been aggressively pumping out variations of the 1906R, but the Cordura fabric featured on the duo here makes them a standout. Take a closer look at the New Balance 1906R “Cordura Pack” via the image gallery above as we wait for a wider release.

LineNew Balance has been on a tear lately, it makes sense their next partnership is with Cordura—a durable synthetic fabric commonly used in luggage and bags, military and performance apparel. You might’ve even seen their label on the products of other brands like Timberland and adidas, just to name a few.

The “Cordura Pack” holds two colorways of the M1906R in “Olive” and “White”. They’re reiterations of 2010’s similarly-named MR1906 (1906 being the year the company was founded). They’re revivals from their back catalogue with a contemporary, high-spec upgrade on the soles as well.

The upper features an exposed Cordura fabric with TPU overlays, equipped with NB’s crafty NLOCK design that sees the shoelaces linked through the ‘N’ logo for enhanced saddle support. The sole combines their Abzorb and N-ergy technologies, giving them superior shock absorption and resilience. A stability web made from TPU is built on the heel reinforcing the arch of the shoe for comfortable daily wear.

To round off, if you didn’t notice it before, is the Cordura label on the lateral collar. Overall, the pack “pays homage to the technical aesthetics of 2000s running shoes while offering a modern, timeless style.”

There aren’t too many details yet about them like a release date or a price point but it is expected to be in stores within the year.

Until then, check out last week’s release of the New Balance M1906RA & M1906RB. It’s essentially the same silhouette, albeit with a more regal touch.
