Quirky Graphics Hop Onto this Frog Skateboards x Vans Old Skool
Would frogs be able to do ollies? Maybe not, but you could in these Frog Skateboards x Vans Old Skool.
[Update 23 Aug 2022] The FroSkate (or more commonly known as Frog Skateboards x Vans) Old Skool has dropped exclusively in Vans Store Harajuku, Prov, and MORTAR for ¥12,100 (~US$89). In this release, it is revealed that another “Frog Green” colorway is also available. Though no news of a global online release has surfaced, it is likely that more information will be made available soon. In the meantime, check out the slider for new campaign imagery that exude the quirky fun of both brands.
Among a host of skateboard decks that lean towards edgier styles, Frog Skateboards stands out with its Basquiat-like doodle aesthetic. The brand continues to be unapologetically itself in both its personal offerings and collaborative projects since its inception in 2015. Among their projects, perhaps one of the most notable is its partnership with one of skateboarding’s biggest brands — Vans.
Linking up in 2021, the two created a capsule collection that involved the Vans Old Skool and Slip-on. Now in 2022, the the creative synergy between Frog Skateboards and Vans meet again on the Old Skool, retaining the first collaboration’s playful graphics but on a differently-tinted canvas.
In this edition, the Vans Old Skool take on a deep tan suede on its toe box and eyelets, while a slightly lighter shade envelops the lateral sides. Black laces string across the tongue, and to match this, the sole comes in the same shade of black. Silicone charms in shapes and the brand’s cutesy frog makes an appearance, following the shape of the Vans jazz stripe. Vans also brands themselves onto the shoe through a checkered heel tab and mint green logo.
No release details have been attached to this Frog Skateboards x Vans Old Skool, but we expect it to be a fall drop given its toasty color. Since the previous collaboration had the Old Skool retailing at SGD119 (~US$87), we expect it to be in a similar price range.
