These Raf Simons-designed Prada Sandals are Sporty & Sophisticated
One of them is even padded, while the other takes on a modern nylon material!
With the coalescing of streetwear and high fashion, certain designers have become prominent figures in its induction. Raf Simons is one such icon. The menswear designer has always rooted his designs in youth subculture and prioritising his garments such that it impressed critics (in part due to his collections always backed by form of social commentary) while youths will actually desire to wear them. After stints at Jil Sander, Dior and Calvin Klein, Simons has went on to become the first co-creative director of Prada that was hired outside of the Prada family.
His design philosophy has evidently carried into the house’s productions, and his latest Prada sandals prove so. The first iteration is a Nappa leather sandal that channels Prada’s “traveling man” — a nod to the luxury house’s DNA given its established history in creating bespoke luggage. Given a sporty feel with a bold, sculpted sole that was previously found on Prada’s Cloudbust Thunder sneaker, the padded leather mixes into the silhouette a soft sophistication. Prada’s branding is embossed onto the lateral side. Both functional and stylish — just like how Raf Simons likes it.
For those that prefer a more minimalist look, an iteration with nylon and leather straps is also available. Exuding modern elegance, Prada’s signature metal hardware makes an appearance as a side-release buckle. The sole is quieter and takes on a more standard look, making this silhouette an easy inclusion into any outfit.
Both models are available on Prada’s website. The padded Nappa pair retails for US$1220 while the leather and nylon tape sandals retail for US$895.
