Aimé Leon Dore Refreshes the New Balance 550 with Three New Colourways
Not one, not two, but THREE Aimé Leon Dore x New Balance 550s that aren't earth-toned? We're shocked too.
[Update 8 Aug 2022] From the sneaker leaks GOAT, @iamricosuav, we now have news and images of two more colourways to top off Aimé Leon Dore’s renewal of the New Balance 550! All in all, the three colourways will consist of the original leak of a White/Navy/Gold, as well as additional Navy/White and Grey/Cream colourways. Interestingly, each colourway will feature a different primary material. The White/Navy/Gold features leather, the Navy/White mainly uses a short-cut suede, while the Grey/Cream uses a furry suede upper. Check out the leaked images in the slider!
Sneakerheads and fashion aficionados will agree that Teddy Santis’ Aimé Leon Dore pretty much revived the New Balance 550 from obscurity. Lending the silhouette a classic-but-aspirational touch, the two-tone muted look has a timeless and genderless appeal that has struck a chord with many. The leak of an upcoming colorway by @iamricosuav reveals that the ALD’s aesthetic carries on, albeit with a more saturated palette.
Dressed in the usual leather and iconic aged midsole, this New Balance 550 showcases an American Varsity-like colorway with a navy blue interior and heel. Complementing these blue accents are hits of gold on the tongue’s branding, the 550 on the forefoot and on the outsole. Unlike the previous Aimé Leon Dore x New Balance 550, though, the heel’s branding sees the mismatched NB logos debossed onto the leather — and in our eyes, elevating the shoe just a bit more.
Elsewhere, the shoe’s N logo and laces take on a simple white, allowing the gold and blue elements to take centre stage. Not much has been revealed about this pair of New Balance 550s, but the circulation of sample shoes hints that more release details should reach our ears soon. This isn’t the only New Balance making an appearance in August. J. League’s FC Tokyo has prepared another collaborative pair that would be popular with those not afraid to sport bold blues.
