If you thought, “that looks familiar…” upon seeing this collaboration, then you’re not wrong! Brooklyn-based label Pilgrim Surf+Supply, known for melding surf-inspired style with streetwear, previously worked on the Classic Slip-on with Vans in 2015.

In similar fashion, Pilgrim’s pennant pattern takes over Van’s usual checkerboard to form a black and white “pennantboard” design on the canvas upper. Pilgrim branding appears on four of these pennants. This is a departure from the 2015 edition, which had the design in a navy colorway. Complementing this monochromatic design is the sole, which sees an asymmetrical black and white design.

Pilgrim Surf+Supply’s continuous work on the Vans Classic Slip-on is likely due to the silhouette’s low profile and easy-to-slip on nature. The comfort and ease aligns closely to the label’s surfing inspirations — an activity that requires a fuss-free shoe to take on and off as surfers move from land to sea.
