‘Rick and Morty’ and adidas Football Launch the New X SPEEDPORTAL Boot
adidas is collaborating with 'Rick and Morty' and two professional footballers, meaning we're probably in the weird timeline. Also, they've got Messi.
‘Wacky’, ‘futuristic’, ‘experimental’, ‘green’ are all adjectives that describe adidas Football’s newest X SPEEDPORTAL boot. Coincidentally, they also describe Adult Swim’s hit show ‘Rick and Morty’ pretty accurately. Though not a single soul would have predicted this collaboration, it’s a match made in heaven. Check out the video below.
Also featuring professional footballers Mo Salah and Vivianne Miedema, the short video released by Adult Swim and ‘Rick and Morty’ creator Justin Roiland shows mad scientist grandfather Rick Sanchez inventing a hi-tech X SPEEDPORTAL boot using essence extracted from the two pro footballers encased in futuristic body tanks.
In typical Rick Sanchez fashion, he then strongly compels (forces) a hesitant Morty Smith to wear the boots, transforming his grandson into the “Earth’s greatest soccer player” to play with Salah and Miedema against a team of multiversal aliens. Sounds about right.

The X SPEEDPORTAL boot itself utilises plenty of new technology, such as SPEEDFRAME 2.0 that includes a lightweight carbon fibre sole plate, as well as a multi-directional stud design “engineered to offer supreme traction.” Meanwhile, SPEEDSKIN 2.0 contains a PRIMEKNIT collar and carbon heel lock that hugs the foot closely, providing unprecedented control and contact. The colourway’s combination of Solar Green and Solar Yellow provides a blinding contrast with the Core Black of the brand’s three stripes on the forefoot, making the boot a head-turner immediately out of the bag. Exposed carbon and carbon fibre elements wrap up the design by adding additional textures and depth.
Overall, it’s an interesting new shoe with a completely off-beat marketing collaboration. What’s there to dislike? The X SPEEDPORTAL boot has launched on the adidas webstore and select retailers for US$250.
