[Update 2 Feb 2023] Mr. Bailey announced on Instagram that the “OZLUCENT” sneaker, created in collaboration with adidas Originals, will go on sale February 9 through adidas with a price tag of US $160. A sign-up page for an early access opportunity was also indicated on the independent designer’s website.

The “OZLUCENT” sneaker heralds the introduction of Mr. Bailey and adidas Originals’ OZMORPHIS development series, bridging the gap between the designer’s marine biological aesthetic and the footwear company’s cutting-edge technological advancements. Expect to see innovative concepts, designs, and advancements on more adidas silhouettes as part of this ongoing creative cooperation, which aims to translate these basic values into footwear.

Dan Bailey, also known as Mr. Bailey, is a UK-based independent designer. Following his first collaboration with adidas Originals last year, this year, he will be working on a second footwear silhouette donned OZLUCENT. This is a continuation of his exploration of underwater species and putting them into its design aesthetic.

Bailey has teased an early prototype of the Mr. Bailey x adidas Originals OZLUCENT on his Instagram. From his statement made in the campaign video for the project, we understand that Bailey respects Nature with all his heart and he is very interested in incorporating natural elements in his design with the latest technology. The statement is a true reflection of the OZLUCENT. From packaging to the design, the project is indeed filled with natural elements.

The prototype comes in a box made from mushroom-derived outer shell paired with sugarcane and cellulose-derived inner shell, hence making the box biodegradable. The prototype itself arrives in a monochromic black tone with an internal neoprene bootie that displays Mr. Bailey pinwheel branding. The prototype has a groovy rubber exoskeleton with perforations. The bottom of the prototype features a split-sole design with an arch at the midfoot. Thin pull lock laces paired with a rubber outsole help to complete the look.

“The OZLUCENT represents the first embryonic stage of the lifecycle of this product rollout. More to come over the coming day,” Bailey promises. Hence, we are confident that more information will be coming soon!
