Comme Des Garcons and Nike are no strangers to collaborating, with the Japanese label frequently offering darker-than-usual styles through their partnership. This time, the duo have reunited to release a similarly-monochromatic collection of Nike Air Max sneakers—the Comme Des Garcons Homme Plus x Nike Air Max Sunder SP.

First introduced in 1999, the original Nike Air Sunder Max came in a range of wild gradient colors. Its Lycra zipper upper gave it a sleek, futuristic look, and the notched nubuck mudguard sits atop visible Air units in the forefoot and heel.

Fast forward to 20 years later, the Comme Des Garcons version, which first made its appearance in the brand’s SS22 runway show, has opted for a much more sombre Black and White color scheme. The futuristic elements remain but the Comme Des Garcons Homme Plus x Nike Air Max Sunder SP now features a premium neoprene material for the upper, with a similar nubuck mudguard. To round out the sneaker, a mini Nike Swoosh is embroidered on the lateral side.
