Graphic artist Kosuke Kawamura has many projects under his belt, with brands like BEAMS, G-Shock, © SAINT M ×××××× and NEIGHBOURHOOD among his long list of partnerships. In 2019, the prolific designer crafted a UT collection with Japanese retailer Uniqlo for the iconic Dragon Ball series. Fast forward to 2022, and Kosuke Kawamura has been appointed the Creative Director of Uniqlo’s UT line on its 20th anniversary. Propelling this stream of collaborative projects is the Japanese artist’s latest project: a Kosuke Kawamura x Converse ALL STAR 100 Hi.
Slated for release in August 2022, the Kosuke Kawamura x Converse ALL STAR 100 Hi was created with the theme “THE VARIANT”. And, certainly, Kawamura’s distinct deconstruct/reconstruct style aligns perfectly with this creative direction. In a bootie-like fashion, the collar is made up of frayed canvas patchwork in shades of gray while the rest of the upper follows the usual black canvas upper.
Weaved into the frayed canvas is also original streaked artwork by Kawamura, lending the shoe a collage-like quality that is characteristic of the Uniqlo UT Creative Director’s works. This art carries into the insoles and the inner lining even has Kawamura’s signature.
Fans of Kosuke Kawamura’s work would definitely not want to miss this August release. The Kosuke Kawamura x Converse ALL STAR 100 Hi will retail for 14,300 yen (~US$105). As we wait for further information on this drop, keep scrolling for official images!
