Virgil Abloh’s Figures of Speech exhibition has landed at the Brooklyn Museum. Conceptualized by Virgil Abloh and curator Antwaun Sargent in 2019 before his death, Figures of Speech seeks to highlight Abloh’s passion and fluidity in “art forms”, and includes his contributions in areas from fashion, architecture to music.
Central to this posthumous exhibition is a wooden structure which the museum hopes to offer as a “space for gathering and performances, and is designed to counter the historical lack of space afforded to Black artists and Black people in cultural institutions,”
Aside from Abloh’s designs (including for Louis Vuitton and Nike) and prototypes, a collection of merch is also now available at the pop-up and online at the museum’s webstore. You can find hoodies, tees, totes, mugs and hats that have various Abloh-isms incorporated in them.
