Louis Vuitton’s presence has been ardently felt in the sneaker and streetwear community, with the highly anticipated Louis Vuitton x Air Force 1 collaboration and an apparel launch with NBA among others. With Paris Fashion Week, Louis Vuitton’s SS23 Mens has created a buzz yet again. Apparel-wise, the showcase of cargo and workwear fits were a homage to the 90’s skate communities. But sneaker enthusiasts will notice that aside from a new foam bootie clog gracing the runway, fresh models were also making appearances on the yellow race track.
Among them are the LVSK8 in unseen but just-as-vibrant colorways. The LVSK8 first made its debut in the “Louis Dreamhouse” FW22 show as part of Abloh’s skate-inspired silhouettes, which was kickstarted by his A View shoe from 2020. The padded tongues and puffy mesh on the upper gave the shoe a 2000s skate look, but elevated when combined with leather overlay panels and LV branding. These were previously previewed in blue, red and nude colorways, but Louis Vuitton’s footwear designer Elliott Cox has shared five new colors for the SS23 show — Volt green, blue, black, neon orange, and a purple/pink mix.
Keen eyes will also spot another chunky sneaker making its debut on the playground-like catwalk. Dubbed Le Boyhood, the chunky silhouette is met with even chunkier laces. Attached to these laces are beads or silicone blocks that look like children’s toys. Such a design decision matches the theme of the runway, which was a blown-up playground, and was also a tribute to Abloh’s imaginative ways that had the ability to evoke an innocent wonder.
Given that the LVSK8 made an appearance in the FW22 show, it is likely that it’ll enter retail later this year. On the other hand, those enamored by Le Boyhood would have to wait it out till 2023 rolls around.
