After the announcement of a Japan-exclusive Stan Smith, adidas reveals that their iconic Superstar is also undergoing a Japanese transformation. Specifically, Tokyo’s vinyl and cafe bar BLOODY ANGLE was enlisted by adidas to create a black, laceless adidas Superstar.
The laceless Superstar was first popularised by the 80s hip hop legends RUN-DMC, and this association makes it a fitting collaborative piece for the BLOODY ANGLE x adidas collab given the cafe’s renown as a retro space. The lack of laces also allow the upper’s synthetic pleated leather to be more pronounced, making the shoe more visually similar to black vinyls.
Driving the vinyl resemblance home is the vinyl hang tag that reads “BLOODY ANGLE”. Accenting the black leather is a red lining, a popular color choice for the cartridges found on record players. adidas’ three lateral stripes are trimmed with a lavender hue — a colour which also makes an appearance on the heels and insides of the tongues. BLOODY ANGLE’s name is also stamped to the heel, sealing the vinyl-looking adidas Superstar as a collaborative effort.
The BLOODY ANGLE x adidas Superstar will be available on atmos for ¥17,600 (~USD$131). It will drop soon on 16 June, so do keep a look out for it! Keep scrolling for more pictures of the collaboration!
