[Update 13 June 2022] The Brain Dead x Vans Vault collection is just a day away from release and more official images are now available. With it comes the reveal that two new models have also been redesigned by Brain Dead — namely, the Authentic LX and Slip-On LX. Unlike the Vans Lampin and Vans Half Cab which utilised color blocking, the Authentic and Slip-on plays into the logomania trend. Based on the Vans checkered pattern, the checkers are replaced with Brain Dead’s head logo. “BRAINDEAD” also appears subtly on the side of the midsole in white print. [Update 10 June 2022] With the launch date hot on the heels of the Brain Dead x Vans collaboration, Brain Dead has dropped more pictures and details. In two new Instagram posts, a modified Vans Half Cab is revealed. Though the model itself is not a slim shoe, Brain Dead amplifies the volume of the design through pastel color blocking and wide “Brain Dead” branded laces. Half Cab branding is stitched onto the tongue while the eyelets adopt a multicolour theme.

The colourful eyelets also appear on another design that Brain Dead has altered — the Vans Lampin. Ideal for those that prefer the usual slim Vans silhouette, the upper is dressed in a rich emerald suede. A semi-circle panel is a complementary blue, lending the shoe a refreshing colour combination.

As revealed by Brain Dead on Instagram, the counter-culture brand is reuniting with Vans for a new collaboration. It is safe to say that Brain Dead and Vans are on each others’ “Close Friends” list given the number of projects they have had together, which includes the redesign of Vans Old Skool, Classic Slip-on, Sk8-Hi and the Era. In this edition of Brain Dead x Vans, the two brands are looking towards another iconic model — the Half Cab.

The only photos at the moment are from the Instagram post, which features a back view of the sneaker. Though the front could potentially be vastly different, it can be gleaned that the shoe will have a suede black upper along with white canvas panels. “BRAINDEAD” is embroidered on each of the heels in white and beige threads. As per usual, the Vans Off the Wall rubber tab is attached to the midsole.
